You Always Have a Choice
An External Control Theory parent might say:
If you don't stop[ fighting over the TV, dad and I are goint to shut it off for a week.
A Choice Theory parent might say this:
How about this? When we get the TV Guide on Sunday, we'll go through it together. We'll each get a choice, and we'll rotate who goes first to keep it fair. This way the worst that can happen is that we'll only have to fight over the TV once a week.
